Central Coast Section Division IV quarterfinals
Saturday's game
No. 7 Carmel (25-8) at No. 2 Menlo (20-6), 7 p.m.
A rematch of last year's Central Coast Section Division IV quarterfinals, the Padres tuned up for the anticipated rematch by beating Harbor in four games on Wednesday.
With three sophomores and a freshman a part of the rotation, it's been on-the-job training all season for Carmel, who won its first road playoff match in six years.
A perennial Division IV power for the last 15 years, the Knights have eight section titles in the last 17 years, the last coming in 2013.
Champions of the West Bay Foothill Division at 9-1, Menlo comes into the match having rattled off eight straight wins.
Six-foot senior outside hitter Maddie Stewart has pounded opponents with 300 kills this year while freshman Sianna Houghton has 128 kills and a team high 314 digs for the Knights.
Megan Gonzalez has ignited the Padres offense all year in the two-set attack with 381 kills and 450 assists. Hana Nystrom has compiled 225 kills while Alex Weber has over 300 assists.
Three players have over 200 digs, including Lauren Salvati and Madi Lombardi. Nystrom also has 70 service aces.
