Central Coast Section Division I quarterfinals
Saturday's match
No. 8 Salinas (14-15) at No. 1 Los Altos (27-7), 7 p.m.
Rather than glance at the seed, one of the first things brought up by Salinas coach Andy Mandon was the fact that Notre Dame beat Los Altos on Oct. 31. Salinas defeated Notre Dame on Oct. 29.
In fact, the Santa Clara Valley De Anza Division champion Eagles only loss in their last 12 matches came from Notre Dame at the Milpitas Spikefest.
Salinas has got to find a way to neutralize 6-foot-1 outside hitter Lulu Kishton, who has 433 kills this fall for Los Altos.
Half of Sarah Callan's 800 plus assists for the Eagles have gone to Kishton, who also leads the team in digs with 314. Four players stand 5-10 or taller at the net.
The Cowboys have hit their stride, having gone 7-2 in their last nine matches, including a four-game win in their playoff opener on Wednesday at Independence.
Sophomore Taylor Rose is coming off a 21 kill, 16 dig effort for Salinas while sophomore Isabelle Mandon has solidified the back row, getting the ball to junior setter Kamryn Sutton.
Salinas has got to be able to get touches at the net on Kishton. That starts with Kathleen Bass and Sam Shaffer.
