Saturday's game
Monterey (5-4) at Reedley (5-4), 6 p.m.
The Lobos defense is something to build off of for next year. The top three leaders in tackles are all freshmen, including Alvarez grad Anthony McKay, who has eight sacks.
McKay, who hadn't played football in five years, has filled a void in the trenches for MPC, giving freshman linebacker Andrew Jakubowsky more room to fly around.
Having Salinas product Eljiah Kirkland back next fall along with Palma graduate Adrian Valdez will solidify the secondary.
Reedley, who saw its title hopes squashed by Hartnell last week, has seen quarterback Austin Bray throw for 2,029 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Keon Marsh has thrown for nearly 1,800 yards this fall for MPC. Brandon Sampson needs 144 yards to reach 1,000 receiving yards.
Brian Hunt had three catches last week for MPC -- all three resulting in touchdowns. Jordan Torres leads the team in rushing and is second in receptions behind Sampson.
MPC is 3-1 on the road this year.
