Christopher-Monterey football

Saturday's game
Christopher (2-7) at Monterey (1-8), 2 p.m.
One of these teams could be ticketed to the Pacific Division next season. The late hiring of a coach in July set the Toreadores back from the start.
Injuries and a lack of depth with just 25 players on the roster have crippled Monterey, who came into the season with five straight years of eight or more wins.
Christopher has struggled in the two seasons it has spent in the Gabilan since the equity league was established, going a combined 2-17.
A bright spot for the Toreadores has been tailback Akili Jones, who went over 1,000 yards rushing for the third straight year.
Christopher's defense has given up 50 or more points in three straight games, including last week's 56-55 loss to Alvarez.
Having Matt Adamkiewicz back behind center makes the Cougars a little more lethal in putting the ball in the air.
