Wednesday's game
Division I
No. 8 Salinas (13-15) at No. 9 Independence (24-9), 7 p.m.
Despite the higher seed, Salinas is on the road because the 76ers are a league champion, having won the Blossom Valley Athletic League title with a 12-2 record.
Independence is balanced offensively at the net, anchored by Justin Lee. However, this is not a big team with just one player standing above 5-feet-6.
Don't be mislead by the Cowboys overall record. They went 6-1 down the stretch, with the only loss coming from Gabilan Division champion San Benito.
Sophomore Taylor Rose has evolved at the net, in the back row and at the serving line for a resurgent Salinas squad, feeding off sets from Kamryn Sutton and Sofia Pagano.
Contributions have come at the net from Sam Shaffer and Kathleen Bass, while Isabelle Mandon has solidified the back row.
