MPC-Hartnell football

Saturday's game
MPC (4-2) vs. Hartnell (6-0) at Rabobank, 6 p.m.
While the Panthers are unbeaten and chasing an unprecedented fifth straight conference title, MPC is undefeated on the road this year.
One of the top junior college receivers in the nation will be on display in Ronnie Turner, who has 41 catches for nearly 700 yards and eight touchdowns for Hartnell.
Of course, on the other side is the Lobos Brandon Sampson, who has 47 catches, including a single game record 17 catches three weeks ago against West Hills.
Quarterback Justyn Gutierrez has thrown for nearly 1,800 yards and 20 touchdowns this year for the Panthers, with just five picks in 202 attempts.
While the 6-4 highly recruited Turner has been his primary target, Gutierrez has built chemistry with Eppy Henriques, who has seven touchdown catches.
What neither team has done particularly well is run the ball. Marcus Washington has provided hope for Hartnell since his return, as has Jordan Torres for MPC.
In fact, Washington and Torres have been just as valuable to their teams catching passes out of the backfield.
Defensively, the Panthers defense has produced 32 sacks, nine for Reggie McGee. Justin Pleasont has been a beast up front while Tyreke Richburg has a team high three interceptions.
Anthony McKay has solidified the Lobos defense in his return to football after a five year absence, registering five sacks.
Freshman linebacker Andrew Jakubowsky leads the team in tackles while defensive back Elijah Kirkland is second on the team in tackles and has three picks, returning one for six.
Special teams will be critical. Both teams have relied on the kicking game. MPC won last week's game when Najee Champagne returned a kickoff 92 yards late in the game to break up a tie.
