Monterey football

This didn't look good from the start.
A coach hired five weeks before the start of the season simply wasn't enough time to put the pieces together.
Yeah, Monterey had been to the postseason the previous five years, averaging eight wins a year.
It still had arguably the best tailback in the county in Akili Jones.
But there were a lot of holes to fill.
The late hire -- not the fault of administration -- saw the numbers decline at all three levels this fall for Monterey.
 Is it a pattern?
Well, the numbers are down for a lot of football programs in the county this year, sparking concern.
Yet, I believe head coach Dan Brown will change the course of direction at Monterey
He's been down this road before, turning the fortunes of Sobrato in Morgan Hill around in one year. No doubt, this is a rebuilding process from the bottom up.
Being on campus a full season will increase numbers. His enthusiasm is contagious. But you have to have parts. Expectations were unrealistic this year.
