Sutter-Palma football

Friday's game
Sutter (1-0) vs. Palma (0-0) at Rabobank, 7:30 p.m.
For a program that started the year with 13 straight wins, losing in the Northern California Division III title game last fall was a blow for the Huskies.
The setback marked the second time in three years that the North Coast Section powers opened the year 13-0 and were within one win of playing for a spot in the state championships.
Erasing those memories began last week when Sutter rallied for a 28-21 win over El Cerrito, as its defense recorded three second half turnovers.
Whether it was by design or not, the Huskies used two quarterbacks in last weeks win. However, this is a team with a run first mentality, that pounds it inside.
Palma is retooling its defense after graduation stripped it of a handful of starters. Yet, defense was its strength in a scrimmage last week with St. Ignatius.
The Chieftains have a lot of options offensively, starting with tailback Emilio Martinez, who rushed for a sophomore record 1,501 yards last year.
Quarterback Jack Richardson came within a completion of throwing for over 2,000 yards, although he did lose his four primary targets from last season.
Palma has traditionally started slow offensively, adding to its offense as the season progresses. But the core is intact this year, including the offensive line.
