 The Mariners will open the season looking to snap an 11-game losing streak that dates back to 2013.
 Last fall Marina averaged just 4.9 points a game. Yet, its defense, anchored by returning linebacker Angel Guevara, kept games close.
 The Mariners lost two games by a point and one by three points last fall.
 A failed two point conversation in the final seconds last week to Greenfield dropped St. Francis to 2-7 against teams in the Mission Trail Athletic League over the last four years.
 One of those wins was a 44-0 decision over Marina in 2012.
 Playing an independent schedule for the third straight year, St. Francis' numbers are growing as it attempts to rebuild its program.
 The Mariners have changed their offense this fall with hopes of controlling the ball. Paul McDowell will quarterback the team with EJ Jennings and Jose Yarzaba sharing the carries.
