King City-Monte Vista football

Friday's game
King City (0-0) at Monte Vista (0-0), 7:30 p.m.
Monte Vista was flat out dominating in the first quarter last fall in reaching the Central Coast Section Division IV title game, outscoring opponents 104-20.
Last year Monte Vista had two come-from-behind wins, rallying from a 14-8 halftime deficit to beat King City.
D'Shawn Hopkins and his 1,000 plus yards on the ground are back for the Mustangs - who are in the  Gabilan Division this year - as is quarterback Ryan Sphon.
Injuries derailed King City before it ever got going last season. Two key elements to the offense are back and healthy this year in tight end Jarod Davis and running back Wacey Barrington.
While quarterback Jacob Flores threw for 1,485 yards in eight games last season for King City, his entire receiving core from has graduated.
The Mustangs would like to run the ball more this season with Barrington behind an offensive line anchored by state meet discus qualifier Seven McEnroe.
King City has dropped five straight season openers. Monte Vista is 5-3 in eight career meetings with King City.
