A revival in a once proud program that began last year is building steam.
Not since 2003 has Gonzales opened the season 2-0.
What happened that year?
Well, it's the last time the Spartans went to the postseason.
Now, lets not get ahead of ourselves.
The first thing Gonzales coach Kevin Bonincontri said upon hearing that is 'don't jinx us.'
Granted, the two teams the Spartans have played are a combined 0-4.
But that's not Gonzales' fault.
An argument can be made that Gonzales has a playoff caliber defense, having not allowed a point in its last seven quarters.
You could sense before the season started that belief had replaced hope on the roster.
Quarterback Logan Gomez has taken the reins behind center and led by example, having rushed for three touchdowns and thrown for two this fall.
Gonzales has a favorable non-league schedule. It will be tested immediately out of the gates in the Mission Trail Athletic League in three weeks with Carmel.
Confidence can be contagious.
