Salinas Valley Hall of Fame

When glancing at this list of inductees, your only thought is 'wow'.
Six individuals and one team will be inducted on August 29 into the third annual Salinas Valley Hall of Fame.
Among them is retired Salinas boys basketball coach Joe Chappell, who won a Central Coast Section record 687 games over a 41 year coaching career.
Gary Shaw put Hartnell College track and field on the map over a four-decade career with 29 men's conference track titles and 15 women's titles.
Add 18 conference cross country titles and Shaw won 62 Coast Conference championships, coached  two Olympic gold medalists and the late Robin Williams.
Long time Palma basketball coach Ron Critchfield is going into the Hall of Fame after winning 494 games over 20 plus seasons.
Current Salinas boys water polo coach Gary Figueroa is being inducted after a Hall of Fame career as a player, helping the United States win a silver medal at the 1984 Olympics.
Figueroa is already in the United States water polo Hall of Fame and UC Irvine Hall of Fame.
The late Ricky Graham was an icon on the American Motorcyclist Association circuit, winning 39 career races, earning the 1993 AMA Athlete of the Year award.
Former Salinas High graduate Jim Rodriguez was a team-roping champion at the California Rodeo Salinas four times and was a five-time Salinas All-Around champion.
Palma's 1992 basketball team is going into the Hall of Fame -- 23 years after it won the county's first and only State Division IV basketball title.
Current Palma assistant coaches Chad and Matt Amaral were catalysts of that team, which went 29-2 that season, along with 6-foot-10 Oregon State bound Brandon Peterson.
Members of the team included Mike Baclig, Mike Castagnetto Joey Diaz, Sky Feekes, Casey Kelly, Robert Long, Marc Mattock, Todd McCrae, David Sargenti, Josh Short, Kenny Young and Steven Zenk.
Bob Burlison was the head coach, assisted by John Amaral and Mark Crossgrove. The event will take place at the Storm House in Salinas, adjacent to Rabobank Stadium.
