Football Tour V (Marina)

Marina (0-10, 0-7)
Were the expectations put on Marina too high last year?
After the program won four games in 2013, it went winless last year for the fourth time in five years since going to 11-man football.
Losing its projected starting quarterback last season before the year started crippled the offense, who was held without a touchdown five times, scoring just 49 points in 10 games.
A new offensive system will focus more on a ground game and the quarterback managing the game. And the Mariners offensive line is bigger.
Marina wasn't bad on defense last year, holding six teams to 20 points or less. It either led or was tied in the second half in three games and lost two games by a point.
While I wouldn't say Marina's record last year was misleading, it was one play away from winning three games.
But it didn't. You're not going to win a lot of games being outscored 127-13 in the first half. The first half of the season is critical as the Mariners host their first five opponents.
The fact that Marina actually has a field on campus with grass to practice on for the first time in five years is a plus. The turnout this fall is as high as ever. You have to start somewhere.
