Preseason football rankings

1. Palma: A legitimate state contender this fall if it can remain healthy.
2. San Benito: The one program that has been a thorn in Palma's side.
3. Salinas: Reigning Gabilan Division co-champions have re-loaded.
4. Carmel: Explosive offense with a new look defense.
5. Alvarez: Size in the trenches, speed at the skilled positions.
6. Monterey: I don't know if five weeks is enough time to overhaul a system.
7. Christopher: Won't be as dominate in the Gabilan, but competitive.
8. Monte Vista: CCS Division IV finalists last year are in the Gabilan this fall.
9. Pacific Grove: Has a championship caliber defense back this fall.
10. Seaside: Hasn't had back-to-back losing seasons in 15 years.
 On the bubble: North Salinas, Soledad, North County, King City, Gilroy.
