Monterey football

Perhaps Monterey should have seen this coming four weeks ago when recently hired head coach Eric Small asked if he could delay his arrival for family reasons.
Small ended speculation Monday when that time would come, informing administration that he was not taking the job after all -- citing personal reasons.
It happens. Your family has to come first.
Yet, I can't help but wonder if Small, who was coaching in South Carolina, knew back in May that this was a possibility when he postponed his arrival.
Because when the assistant coaches running spring ball asked him to send them the playbook to get a jump start on the new systems, he did not oblige.
Now a program that has made 10 postseason appearances in the last 11 years sits in limbo.
This is not a program that needs to be resurrected. There's talent on the table. But with each passing day, frustration is mounting.
There are strong candidates interested in the position that were overlooked the first time. Don't drag your feet.

Who are these strong candidates that are up for consideration?

NVM just read the article. Doesnt sound like many strong candidates though. This could be the collapse of monterey football.

Completely mishandled by Monterey administration in charge of hiring. Given the hesitence, Monterey admin should have provided a hard date months ago. As soon as former HC opted out, the search should have started and they should have had at least 3 candidates. They should have told the out-of-state coach they need to find out by .... in April or early latest May and if not, then have another coach in place. Given how coaches turn over, it is a good idea to have a succession plan in place and have a way to elevate assistant coaches to HC. Yes...if the Admin wanted to change the program direction it is good to go outside but this was mismanaged. Constistency in coaching or at least the program (offense scheme, etc.) helps with consistency in a program. Monterey didn't seem to have a broken program - it was successful given the size of school and maybe needed a tweek to get to the next level as far as playoffs.

Read the article and the King City coach seems a good candidate. Another that I would hate to see leave Palma as a coach is Palma's JV Coach Martinez. He is a great HC and great offensive mind. Not sure he would move, but he would be a steal. Not saying he is looking to leave, but for years can't figure out why he isn't a high school or college HC.
