Scotts Valley-Carmel baseball

CCS Division II baseball playoffs
Wednesday's game, 4 p.m.
No. 10 Scotts Valley (15-12) at No. 7 Carmel (20-7)
The two teams faced each other on March 4 with Scotts Valley prevailing 5-3. Since then Carmel has scored three or fewer runs on just two other occasions.
Anchoring the Padres lineup is Carter Hayes, who has 15 extra base hits among his 28 on the season. The junior has 28 runs batted in 27 games.
Scotts Valley has the distinction of having beaten three league champions this year, finishing third in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League.
Look for junior Greg Neiger to get the start as he posted a 9-2 record this spring with a 1.88 earned run average. David Snider is hitting .376 for the Falcons with 13 extra base hits..
Pitching will dictate how far Carmel goes in the Division II playoffs. In its seven losses, it gave up nine or more runs five times.
