Pacific Grove-Monterey baseball

CCS Division II baseball playoffs
Wednesday's game, 5 p.m.
No. 9 Pacific Grove (20-8) vs. No. 8 Monterey (15-12) at Sollecito Park.
Talk about an adrenaline rush right out of the gate.
Three of the last four CCS lower division titles have come from these two peninsula powers.
The Toreadores, who are making their 25th straight postseason appearance, caught fire when their playoff streak appeared in jeopardy with six straight wins.
Pacific Grove went 7-1 down the stretch, earning a share of the Mission Trail Athletic League title.
Pitching has been a strength for both teams.
Gavin Jarvis fired a no-hitter in his last outing for Monterey while the Breakers staff has allowed one earned run in their last 21 innings.
Long Beach State bound Chris Fife and Anthony Coppla have sprayed the ball all over the field all  spring for Pacific Grove while Kacee Takasaki and Dan Harrington have gotten hot of late.
Digger Gugale has 10 doubles and 18 runs batted in for Monterey while ASU bound Carter Aldrete has 28 hits, ripping a homer in his late outing.
Monterey is 7-1 since going back to afternoon games at Sollecito Park.
The two teams haven't played each other since Monterey beat the Breakers 5-4 in a tournament in 2008.
Monterey's 43 playoff wins are the fifth most in CCS history.
