Salinas-Pioneer boys basketball

Two teams that have yet to taste defeat this year, square off tonight in what might be regarded as an early season pop quiz in the championship game of the Santa Cruz Dads Tournament.
Both teams have signature wins with Salinas knocking off Santa Cruz and the Mustangs holding off Wilcox earlier this month.
Pionner, who won the James Lick Tournament on Dec. 5, has some size in the paint with 6-foot-5 forward Jelani Marsh and 6-3 senior John Newell.
Improved play at the top of the perimeter from Willie Gray and Richard Torres has ignited Salinas' start.
That and the presence of a pair of 6-4 forwards in Nat Hunsdorfer and LaRon Logwood, both of which are among the team leaders in points and rebounds.
