Monterey football

You shouldn't be surprised by the Toreadores explosive start.
No team has more speed than Monterey, who has produced 109 points in two lopsided wins to open the season.
If you're not taking this team seriously, you're not paying attention.
The Toreadores haven't even had their full arsenal of weapons yet. That could change next week.
Unleashing quarterback Carter Aldrete has fueled a foreign look at Monterey and that's a potent passing attack, as the junior has five touchdown passes.
Teams can no longer stack nine in the box to stop the Toreadores traditional veer offense.
If there's any drawbacks to this offense, it's that it scores fast. Meaning the defense doesn't get a lot of rest. Then again, it hasn't had a lot of reps yet either.
When are teams going to learn not to punt the ball to Ryan Reynolds. Two games and two runs of 60 yards or more on punt returns.

Monterey has players and the potential to be very good, however nonleague schedule makes it tough to gage how good they are at this stage. Would have like to see a better nonleague schedule with this team. They won't be challenged until league. Won't really know until league starts. Will know how good Hollister is next week against a very good Los Gatos (the Hilmar team is not strong this year and Palo Alto is way down), but definitely have a very good defense as usual. Palma had a couple tough tests with Carmel and Saint Francis, but should win against Willow Glen and a down Palo Alto. Salinas has a strong schedule and Carmel will be a good benchmark against Palma and game against Sacred Heart Prep should be decent indication. The Cowboys schedule definitely prepares them for the Gab. Alvarez nonleague schedule makes it difficult to determine how good they are. Definitely have some athletes, but another team that won't be challenged until league. Gab looks like it is a 3 team competition (Monterey, Palma, Hollister), Salinas a dark horse and Alvarez a longer shot.
