It happened again.
A season opening loss for the fifth straight year.
This one, though, stings a little more as King City came into the season with expectations rather than hope.
Essentially its army of offensive weapons from last year is in place. Remember this was a team that was one point away from winning its last six games.
Now King City coach Mac Villanueva has to built his players back up.
Slow starts have become a not so healthy tradition of late for this program.
Yet, before pinning this 22-14 loss on six turnovers in a mistake filled night, perhaps some credit should go to Monte Vista, who will be a factor this fall in the MBL's Pacific Division.
And King City was without its leading rusher, who is still recovering from off-season knee surgery. As a result, there was no running game.
King City didn't get its offense in rhythm last fall until tailback Wacey Barrington became a factor in the offense.
Still, it's difficult to beat any team when turning the ball over six times. You put your defense on the field one time to many. That has to be addressed this week.
