Palma football
A lot of you had a nail in Palma's coffin five weeks ago when it was 0-3.
Probably wishful thinking.
Hey, Palma's consecutive playoff streak will end someday.
But not this year.
With its fifth straight win and 11th straight over Salinas, the Chieftains have all but locked up a 30th consecutive trip to the Central Coast Section playoffs.
With one more league win, Palma will clinched no worse than a share of the Gabilan Division title for the second straight year.
Of course, that means a trip to the Open Division playoffs.
This was a retooling year for Palma. This is not a deep team. But it's a team that has molded as one and found that chemistry that makes teams a champion.

I dont think many people were writing palma off. I think they were just accepting that they werent as good as past years. The play in the Gab division has been easier then their non league schedule so its no surprise that they are undefeated. I was hoping Palma didnt win the Gab just so they wouldnt have to go into the open. but I think we all knew they were still the favorites to win league. With Serra losing to SF last night Terra Nova I believe will be the #1 seed in the open and palma might end up the #8 which IMO gives palma the best chance to win a game in the open.
Palma will nee to finish out strong, but yess...Serra losing was huge for the first round. Palma prospects in the future look good...Frosh may be the strongest class in all of CCS and sophs stacked with talent and among the top class in the section as well (behind Serra). Juniors have lots of great defensive players. With the upcoming classes-Palma will have some very strong teams and could push for an Open title in in the next couple years. Not good for Monterey County teams.
