Football Tour XVIII MPC

Monterey Peninsula College

There was a hop in MPC head coach Mike Rasmussen's step the other day at practice - not to mention a rare smile and a broom.
I have no idea what the broom was for.
A lot has changed since the former St. Mary's head coach put roots down at MPC 13 years ago, such as revitalizing a program that was in jeopardy of being shut down.
Rasmussen has taken a lot of marginal high school athletes and turned them into scholarship bound football players.
Oh, and five Coast Conference titles have occurred in the last decade, including back-to-back bowl games. Forgive the Lobos is they're not interested in sharing another title this fall.
Rasmussen has a roster of players that only care about the name on the front of the jersey. There is no shortage of leadership.
Anchoring an offensive line is 29-year-old Travis Grover, who went from a 150-pound safety 10 years ago at Valley Christian to a 270-pound all conference beast at MPC last year.
A brutal preseason paid dividends in conference last season, where the Lobos defense held four opponents to a touchdown or less.
What MPC needs to improve upon is its play on the road, where it was 1-4, allowing 36.5 points a game.
