After scoring just 55 points in their first two seasons combined, the Mariners produced a school record 87 last season.
While it didn't translate to a win, the program can at least compete now. San Lorenzo Valley closed last season with three straight losses.
The Mariners could have their hands full in trying to contain quarterback Isaac Newberry, who threw for 1,322 yards and 10 touchdowns last season as a sophomore for SLV.
The Cougars outscored opponents 104-47 in the third quarter last year.
