Stevenson-Scotts Valley baseball

Saturday at 11 a.m. at Monterey Peninsula College
Stevenson (17-9) vs. Scotts Valley (19-11)
Division III

The Pirates demonstrated how an ace on the bump can trigger a major upset in the playoffs.
Stevenson, who knocked off Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League champion and Division III No. 3 seed St. Francis Catholic, squeezed into the postseason as the No. 14 seed.
So do the Pirates have another arm capable of shutting down a Scotts Valley squad that erupted for 11 runs in its first round playoff win over Half Moon Bay?
How about Angelo Martinez, who tossed an eight-inning shutout over Greenfield in the season final that catapulted the Pirates into the playoffs?
Stevenson has won four straight games and is 8-1 in its last nine. Three of those wins came against teams in the playoffs.
The Falcons do have some pop in the lineup, anchored by Joe Gillette, who hit three home runs and led the team in hits.
