Saturday at the Salinas Sports Complex, 10:15 a.m.
Seaside (18-5) vs. Notre Dame (19-9)
Division III
This is unchartered waters for the Monterey Bay League Pacific Division champion Spartans, who have never reached the CCS quarterfinals.
On the other hand, this is Notre Dame's 22nd straight appearance in the quarterfinals. It has won 21 straight CCS quarterfinal playoff games.
Seaside, which broke the single season school record for wins with its first playoff win, has had to rally in the seventh inning to win its last two games.
Is there any more magic left?
The Spirits have won a CCS record 12 section softball titles - including a state record nine straight during one stretch.
Notre Dame's lineup is stacked and healthy for the first time all season with Sarah Muzik back at the top of the order.
Seven starters are back from last year's CCS semifinal team for Notre Dame, including pitcher Elizabeth Ray. By comparison, Seaside has five freshmen on its roster.
