Danny Poma


The honors continue to pour in for Danny Poma, who was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year for the Hofstra University baseball team.
 Poma, a Monterey High product, led the nation in runs scored with 76 and doubles with 31. He finished second in the nation in hitting (.435) and hits (97).
 The center fielder led Hofstra and the CAA in stolen bases (26), total bases (149), on-base percentage (.504) and slugging percentage (.688). He also ripped seven bombs and drove in a team high 47 runs.
 Poma  is a finalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, which is awarded to the nation's top player, and the Golden Spikes Award, which is presented by USA Baseball to the top amateur athlete in the nation.
