Eight athletes from Monterey County have put their names among the top eight in the Central Coast Section with lifetime bests at the midpoint of the track season.
Jayla Scholis, a CCS finalist last year in the 100 meters for Seaside, is ranked second after blistering the track in 12.46.
King City's Jessica Davis, a section finalist in two events last year, is ranked second in the high jump (5-4) and third in the 100 hurdles (15.93), a step behind Notre Dame's Omolara Adenuga (15.84).
A fourth place finisher last season in the pole vault for Salinas, Tenny Shaffer is ranked fourth this year after clearing a career best 11-1. Teammate Iesha Boyd has run 12.81 in the 100.
Coming out of nowhere has been Gabrielle Bollin of Alvarez, who uncorked the discus 107-11. And Notre Dame's Kiera Paulo and the Mustangs Davis are tied for fifth in the 300 low hurdles (48.24).
Still yet to be pushed is two-time CCS 3,200 finalist Anna Welsh, who has run the sixth fastest time in the metric two-mile in 11:31.84 for Monterey.
