Defending CCS high jump champion Stephen Dorsey has cleared a section leading 6-6 for Monterey. Juggling volleyball and track this spring, the senior has a career best of 6-9.
Dorsey is also ranked fourth in the triple jump at 43-4.
Catapulting himself into state meet contention is Stephen Leach of Carmel, who has uncorked the shot put a career best 49-11 1/4. Leach is ranked fourth.
North County's Austin Decker, a CCS finalist last year in the pole vault, is tied for third at 13-6. He has also put his name into the top eight in the 300 intermediate hurdles (41.60).
In fact, three county athletes are among the top eight in the section as Soledad's Adrian Valdez (41.61) is ranked sixth and Salinas' Dominik Engel (41.71) is eighth.
