I'm curious to see if Seaside takes a different approach tonight in the Peninsula Jamboree, which includes host Pacific Grove, Stevenson and Morro Bay.
In the past the Spartans have not put a lot of emphasis on the event. The result has seen them get pushed around. It's not a game and Seaside has treated that way.
But for the first time in seven years, the Spartans aren't the favorites to win their league. They're not a lock to return to the postseason. Players are playing for jobs.
I wouldn't call it a sense of urgency. But this is a prideful program.

Oh Mr. Devine. In my humble opinion, what do you get out of a jamboree anyways? This is what I've taken from my years being there. You get to smack another colored jersey. Its where you get to see who coils into a fetal position and who brings the 2x4 to the party. Players with potential (like sophomores) on Varsity get to taste the dew of Varsity mist for the first time. Other than that, its good fun and we get to watch kids that may never get on the field during the season onto that playing field. "When all else fails and you don't know what to do, just hit somebody!!!"
Recommendation. if you want to make it more exciting, invite Carmel and Monterey.
Not to mention the fans going nuts when PG or RLS scores on Seaside. Fans walk away thinking "This is our year!" Who are we to take that away from them? I'll tell you what tho, last season Seaside stunk it up at the Jamboree and you called them out in your article, then they went into Salinas and blew them out the next week. Please do that again, you just may be on to something.
I like the way you think. And you make some great points.
