22 teams in 22 days XXI
Alvarez
Last spring Alvarez made it clear what its goals were. Playoffs.
Never mind that the program had never won a TCAL game since moving into the league in 2006. The Eagles had set the bar high.
A season-ending loss to Alisal kept them out of the postseason.
Four wins may not seem like much, until you realize that it doubled the Eagles' win total over the last four years combined. Five of their six losses came against teams that reached the postseason.
And Alvarez did this with youth anchoring the offense. Perhaps they were oblivious to the program's past. Or a new attitude had taken shape at Alvarez.
It's not just hope any longer at Alvarez. It's expectations. Alvarez has added a few wrinkles to the offense to take advantage of junior quarterback Michael Turner's athleticism.
The Eagles' four non-league games are against playoff-caliber opponents. A week later it's Salinas, Palma and San Benito in succession. One more win than last year puts this team in the postseason.
