 If the third preseason game is considered a dress rehearsal prior to the start of the regular season, the 49ers are in big trouble.
 Big surprise.
 Look, 49ers fans, you're going to have to be patient with first-year coach Jim Harbaugh as he builds this team around his players. Even Bill Walsh went 2-14 in his first season with the 49ers.
 I've cut Alex Smith as much slack as anyone. But after six years, he's not the answer.
 It's kind of like the San Francisco Giants' bats. It's not going to change.
