Weekend picks

No rhyme or reason, but picking against Monterey was foolish, ending a streak of 23 straight wins, putting the season mark at 91-15.

Friday's games
Live Oak vs. Monterey at MPC: Over the last four games, the Acorns have given up more than 47 points a game. John-Wyatt Williams is on another planet right now. Pick: Monterey.
Palma vs. St. Francis at Sports Complex: Playing to a 7-7 tie 10 weeks ago, these teams have met four times in the last 12 months. Pick: St. Francis.
Greenfield at Half Moon Bay: If I'm Greenfield, I pull out every trick I know. That means a pass or two in the first quarter. Loosen up that Pirate defense. Pick: Half Moon Bay.
Salinas at Milpitas: The Cowboys come into the playoffs with a four-game winning streak. They are unbeaten (3-0-1) outside Salinas. Pick: Salinas.
Saturday's games
The Kings Academy at Carmel: This is not a good first-round matchup for the Padres. Defense will have to rise to the occasion in containing Stanford-bound tailback Amir Carlise. Pick: Carmel.
Seaside at Sacred Heart Prep: The Gators will run the ball at a Seaside defense that has given up over 900 rushing yards in its last two games. Pick: Scared Heart.
Burlingame at North County: The Condors have to be cautious about looking ahead to a possible rematch with Monterey. Pick: North County.
