Four thoughts for tonight

Daniel Breaux has never had more than 18 carries in a game for Greenfield. In fact, his season average is 13. He'll likely get no more than a handful tonight against Marina. Which is the right thing to do. But I can't help wondering what kind of numbers he could be putting up if he were averaging 20 carries a game. As it is, the 225-pounder is on pace for 1,700 yards.

King City's defense has been opportunist during its four game winning streak with 19 turnovers. Last week Pacific Grove turned the ball over five times. But the Mustangs have not beaten the Breakers in Pacific Grove in more than a decade.

Football has been put in prospective this week for Seaside after a teammate lost his father. At the same time, practice has helped put the pain aside for a couple of hours each day. Seaside has not fared well in big matchups this year, falling to Atascadero and North County, who were both undefeated at the time. Monte Vista is undefeated.

An argument could have been made that one play was the difference in North Salinas losing its first three games of the season. But not in the last two, where the Vikings have been outscored 60-0 in the first three quarters. Model students in the classroom with a 3-plus team grade point average, North Salinas needs to show that intelligence on the field tonight.
