Monterey football

I have read all the comments (20 and counting) from Saturday's Carmel-Monterey football game on line.
Some of you are venting in frustration and missing the real point.
Before ripping the Monterey coaching staff for doing a poor job, how about praising the Carmel coaching staff for putting together a solid game plan?
It's not pouring it on when backups are throwing touchdown passes against a first team defense.
Yes, I wondered where the adjustments were as well. Monterey has some work to do. Not just the coaching staff, but the players. But Monterey is 2-1.
The real issue was the trio of players losing their composure in the third quarter.
You don't run over to an opposing sideline after a play and scream 'you're expletive nothing' when you're trailing 37-14.
That needs to be addressed NOW.
That starts at home with the parents. If that's my kid, he's apologizing today to Carmel or he's not playing next week. Sports is an extension of the classroom, not a place to run your mouth. Before demanding the firing of a coaching staff, how about teaching your kids some values?

Hi Dan,

As a Seaside High parent and Grad I can't believe I'm defending Monterey but the behavior of the player is not just parents responsibility, it's the coaches and the players too. The fans and the media are no help either. Quality wins are not as celebrated as an ugly loss is vilified. Maybe that player had some other stuff happen during the game to him where he felt his team slighted. Maybe he repeated something his coaches were saying. My guess is if you pull the young man aside and talk to him you will get a different perspective. They are all good kids I believe, we screw them up. I've seen my share of football over the years to believe that statement to be true. Watch even the most hated rivalry game and you will see kids from different teams picking each other up and patting each other on the behind. At a game in Gilroy a few years ago I saw Gilroy let a mentally disabled player(I hope I don't offend anybody)from the other team score, and both sides celebrated. Yet in some message board or blog I'm sure someone complained about a late hit, a dropped pass or a fumble. They aren't professionals, they are kids. If neither the coaches, the parents or fans of both teams act with class what do you expect out of the kids in terms of behavior?

Have a great day,

Proud parent of 2 Toredores and a Spartan (my favorite one ;-)
