Soccer in America

The United States squandered a 2-0 second half lead and fell Sunday to Brazil in the Confederations Cup Championship.
Forget the loss for a moment.
Does the strong showing by the United States create more interest in the sport in America?
I have to admit when I heard the U.S. was up 2-0, I tuned in.
I think the effort by the U.S. improves the sports' image that it can be exciting. But I doubt the best athletes in America will change directions with say baseball or football, and put their talents towards soccer.
Clearly, though, interest in the sport beyond playing it as a youth is improving.
