Monterey is going to do something out of the ordinary this fall when it hosts Half Moon Bay on Friday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. on its campus.
Traditionally, high school football games on Friday in Monterey County start between 7 and 8 p.m. But Monterey has no lights and will not be using Monterey Peninsula College for all of its home games this year.
The concept is to get the student body's support while they're still on campus. And new coach Tom Newton didn't want to play on Saturday. I like the idea. I love the time.
Monterey hasn't always drawn great student body crowds. Perhaps a home game on campus on Friday will change that.
