Stevenson girls hoops

You have to hope the impressive start the Pirates put together in the preseason isn't derailed by a 20 day layoff between games.
Stevenson went 7-2 before the Christmas Holidays. But it hasn't played since December 20 and will not hit the court again until Wednesday when it visits Santa Catalina.
It's difficult to go 20 days between games without some rust. Then again, this has been a team that has been oblivious to expectations.
Considering the Pirates lost their top two scorers to graduation, the fast start this year was somewhat of a surprise.
Retooling the lineup started with four freshmen, including the teams top two scorers in Rhea Cosand and Gaby Perez.
The pair are averaging a combined 21.8 points a game, with Cosand dropping in just under 12 points a game.
Their emergence, coupled with the development of sophomore Kailey Clymo has given Stevenson a nucleus of scoring options along with the lone senior on the team in Stephanie Dalhamer.
The Pirates will embark on the Cypress Division season on Friday as the only team with a winning non-league record.
And while the non-league schedule wasn't demanding, wins over one Mission Division opponent and one team from the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League at least makes league rivals take notice.
