Salinas-Notre Dame hoops

Nearly a month to the day since the two south Salinas teams faced off, the Cowboys will make the three block drive to Notre Dame tonight in both teams' final non-league tune-up.
Redemption has to be on the Spirits mind after Salinas knocked them from the unbeaten ranks with a 45-42 win on Dec. 11.
Notre Dame has not dropped a game since, sitting at 9-1 this winter.
An argument can be made that the win over the Spirits was a turning point in Salinas' season. What followed was a victory over then undefeated North Salinas.
At 8-3, the Cowboys have already surpassed last year's entire win total going into Mission Division play Thursday at Christopher.
Sophomore Makenzi Laporte leads Salinas in scoring and rebounds while seniors Christina Chagnon and Neveah Pinon have taken freshmen Brooke Cannon and Jenika Zurita under their wings.
Notre Dame's fab four that took them to a league title last year as sophomores, are back in playmaker Kelly Kinion, Angela Leavitt, Grace Briley and Mariah Schlapfer.
Leavitt is dropping in a team high 14 plus points a game while sophomore Corrine Sargenti has evolved into another scoring option at just under 10 points a night.
Eight of Notre Dame's nine wins have been by 12 points or more. Salinas held the Spirits to a season low six points in the third quarter in that first meeting.
