Salinas boys hoops

A new coach and nine new faces guaranteed there would be a learning curve.
Apparently Salinas has some fast learners, willing to adapt to change, embrace their roles and put the future into the present.
That 3-5 start is in the rear view mirror as the Cowboys will ride into their Gabilan Division opener on Friday against Monterey having rattled off six straight wins.
 The difference? Maturation.
It wasn't that the Cowboys were playing poorly. Intangibles were haunting them. The setbacks came against talented teams, two of which are a combined 22-2.
One notable aspect during the streak has been Salinas' defense, which is allowing an average of 42.3 points a game.
Production is coming from a combination of players. Four players were in double figures in a recent win over Christopher, including JoJo Paris and AJ Saldana.
Saldana was at it again in a win over San Benito, with help coming from Ryan McKinley. In fact, six different players have scored in double digits in the teams last two games.
If someone is having an off night, another player picks him up. There's depth off the bench, enabling the Cowboys to not be afraid to play tenacious defense.
There are no nights off in the Gabilan Division.
