Gabilan Division
1. Seaside: A reigning league MVP, coupled with a double-double machine as a sidekick, and a cast of characters that relish their roles.
2. North Salinas: Never underestimate a program that expects to chase league and CCS titles every year.
3. Monte Vista: Ten returning players came into the season with chemistry and confidence.
4. Notre Dame: Four sophomores carried them to a Pacific Division title last season.
5. San Benito: A five-game winning streak during the preseason has them believing their contenders.
6. Gilroy: Will likely make more noise in the second half and disrupt someones title hopes.
Mission Division
1. Salinas: With wins over three Gabilan Division teams, its stay in the Mission could be brief.
2. Alisal: Having a healthy Karley Apodaca in 2016 as a freshman took the Trojans to a title.
3. North County: The last time the Condors won a title in 2011, head coach Priscilla Mora was dropping in 18 points a game.
4. Alvarez: Used the preseason as a means to strengthen itself for a run at supremacy in league.
5. Watsonville: The hope is it has found that chemistry on the court for league play.
6. Christopher: If it can show the same improvement as last year, it will contend.
Cypress Division
1. Soledad: Don't mistake replacing four starters as a team rebuilding for the defending MTAL champions.
2. St. Francis: Has won three CCS Division V titles in the last six years.
3. Pacific Grove: Might be the most balanced team among the six in this division.
4. Carmel: Closed last season 8-2 with virtually the same cast of characters.
5. Stevenson: This will be the most competitive division among the five in the PCAL.
6. King City: Replacing its top three scorers meant growing pains in the preseason.
Santa Lucia Division
1. Pajaro Valley: Jayleen Solarzano's 42-point effort earlier this year wasn't a fluke.
2. Greenfield: A cast of unknowns that spent the preseason building cohesiveness.
3. Pacific Collegiate: Defending CAL champions will be a factor in the Santa Lucia.
4. Gonzales: Has a chance to surpass its win total from the last three years combined.
5. Monterey: Rebuilding this program will be a process, not an overnight expectation.
6. Santa Catalina: The preseason record won't indicate it. But this team got better.
