It's been a one-sided rivalry of late, with Monterey having posted wins of 41, 28, 55 and 17 points.
Yet, no program provided a bigger turnaround last season than Seaside, who went from two league wins to 10 in capturing a league title.
The Spartans believe the gap is closing on their rivals going into tonight's meeting at Monterey.
Normally an up-tempo, fiery atmosphere when these two meet, both like to pressure the ball and run at will.
Seaside has played well on defense in its two wins, holding both opponents under 35 points.
The Toreadores have been explosive, averaging 77.3 points in their first three games behind reigning league MVP Mohammed Adam, who is dropping in 19 points a game.
Adam and Evans Charles are starting their fourth year for the Toreadores while Tahjae Ordonio and Mohanid Adam are three year starters.
Seaside does have some size that could give Monterey trouble inside with junior James Milovale and Dalton Rainaud.
If the Spartans can slow the game down and get past Monterey's pressure at the top of the key, their physical presence in the paint could keep them in the game.
