San Benito-Salinas football

Central Coast Section Open Division I
Friday's game
No. 5 San Benito (6-4) at No. 4 Salinas (7-3), 7 p.m.
Two weeks after ending the Cowboys 12-game league winning streak, San Benito will return to 'The Pit' in a rematch.
Both teams compiled over 1,000 yards in total offense in the Balers 35-28 win.
Co-champions of the Gabilan Division, Salinas gave up over 400 rushing yards to San Benito in the loss.
It did a better job in containing a run-oriented team last week, cutting that number in half in a win over Aptos.
In the teams first meeting, Stevan Navarro ran for 278 yards for San Benito while teammate Juan Deleon added 116 yards on the ground.
San Benito put the ball in the air one time against Salinas.
A nine-man front, anchored by Sebastian Gomez, can be expected this week until the Balers prove it can throw the ball effectively.
Salinas put up 620 yards in the loss to San Benito with Carl Richardson throwing for 448 yards and four touchdowns.
The Cowboys, though, were their own worst enemy in the first meeting with four turnovers and over 100 yards in penalties.
While Salinas was scoring the last 15 points in last week's 28-24 win over Aptos, the Balers gave up a season high 49 points in a thumping by Palma.
For the impressive numbers that the Cowboys have put up through the air this year, the ground game has produced over 1,500 yards and 24 touchdowns.
