Pioneer-Palma football

Central Coast Section Open Division III
Friday's game
No. 8 Pioneer (4-6) vs. No. 1 Palma (9-1) at Rabobank, 7 p.m.
The Mustangs are limping into the playoffs, having dropped six of their last seven games, finishing near the bottom of the Mount Hamilton Division.
Pioneer has used a carousel of quarterbacks as four different players have thrown touchdown passes this fall. Edgar Valencia has rushed for over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The Gabilan Division co-champion Chieftains have scored 40 or more points in four straight games and five of their last six during a six-game winning streak.
Quarterback Grant Sergent has thrown for over 2,000 yards this season -- and a single-season school record 25 touchdowns for Palma.
Sergent broke the record shared by current Dolphins quarterback David Fales and Stanford backup Jack Richardson.
Micah Olivas has caught 13 touchdowns for Palma, with 697 receiving yards, while Jon Jon Berring has 24 receptions.
Tailback Anthony Villegas has rushed for over 100 yards in 18 of his last 20 games, having scored 14 touchdowns for Palma.
Based on how the brackets are set up, the Chieftains could be on a crash course for a rematch with Aptos in two weeks.
