Saturday's game
Pacific Grove (4-5) at Carmel (9-0), 2 p.m.
The battle for 'The Shoe' has taken up residency at Carmel for the better part of the last decade as the Padres have won nine of the last 10 meetings.
While the two long-time rivals are no longer in the same division entering their 71st meeting, it's still a game of significance in terms of pride among the communities.
The Padres, who won their eighth league title in the last decade last week, are chasing an undefeated regular season for the third time in 10 years.
Carmel, which holds a 35-33-2 series lead, is averaging over 40 points a game, while its defense has allowed 79 points all season.
The Breakers are coming off their most complete game of the season, producing the games first 30 points in a win over Santa Cruz.
Pick your poison when attempting to stop Carmel's offense. Dakota Mornhinweg has rushed for over 1,000 yards while Kai Lee has thrown 22 touchdown passes.
Four or more players have caught four or more touchdown passes for the Padres, including Rashaan Ward, who has seven touchdowns.
Talk about balance. As a unit, Carmel has rushed for 26 touchdowns and thrown for 26 touchdowns this fall.
Blake Moore had been arguably the Breakers most prolific player this fall, having rushed for nearly 500 yards while having 282 yards and three touchdowns as a receiver.
Where Carmel has asserted itself is in the third quarter this year, outscoring opponents 83-0. Robert Brown has 11 sacks, while the defense has 10 interceptions.
