Hartnell women's cross country

The Panthers put together an historical run Friday, producing the lowest score ever at the Northern California Championships at Shasta College.
With seven runners all finishing in the top 14, the states No. 4 ranked team produced a score of 19 -- surpassing the previous low of 30 in running away with the team title by 70 points.
"I was pleased with how the ladies executed the race plan and challenging weather," Hartnell coach Chris Zepeda said. "What's exciting is we can run even better in two weeks."
Zepeda was speaking about the state championships, which will be held Nov. 17 at Woodward Park in Fresno.
"We were the state preview champs back in September," Zepeda said. "Our goal is to have the same outcome. I believe these seven can do it."
Monica Ruelas lead the Panthers parade, finishing second overall in 19:35.0 over 3.1 miles. Daniela Salazar was third in 19:40.0, with Arlene Diaz Leal taking fifth in 20:05.5.
Rounding out Hartnell's significant seven included Isabelle Torres (8th), Nina Arias (10th), Maria Aceves (12th) and Nerina Campos (14th).
The men nearly made it a sweep among team titles, finishing two points behind American River for second place.
Patrick Olson led the charge for Hartnell, finishing fifth overall in 21:27.50 over four miles, while teammate Alfredo Mejia Jr. took sixth.
Following the pair for the Panthers state qualifying team were Jacob Niles, Nick Merillana, Victor Nambo and Andres Rodriguez.
MPC's Caleb Llorin-Hernandez qualified for the state meet after finishing fourth overall, covering the race in 21:26.00.
