Emilio Martinez has evolved into one of the top receiving running backs in the conference for the University of San Diego football team.
The sophomore has a career high 37 catches for 413 yards and three touchdowns for the Toreros, who are 7-0 in conference. Last year Martinez caught 20 passes for the entire season.
The former Palma prodigy has also rushed for 679 yards and eight touchdowns in nine games, with 320 of those yards coming in the teams last three games.
As a senior at Palma, Martinez rushed for a single-season school record 2,484 yards, rushing for 39 touchdowns.
Toreros teammate and one time Monterey High and MPC receiver Michael Armstead has caught 19 passes for 448 yards and two touchdowns.
Armstead leads the team in average yards per catch at 25.5. His 448 receiving yards are No. 2 on the Toreros.
