Former Stevenson standout Armand Melendez won the Salinas Fairways Amateur Open, setting a new course record in the process, shooting 6-under par over 36 holes.
A state meet qualifier in golf two years ago for Stevenson, the 18-year-old Melendez also recorded a hole in one during the tournament on the eighth hole.
Melendez, who spent last spring as one of the top golfers at Sonoma State, also won the Monterey Open over the summer
