All County Softball Team

Alyssa Allen, North Salinas >> The slugger hit .600 for the Vikings, leading the Pacific Division in home runs with 11, striking out just twice in 105 at bats.

Allen also drove in 52 runs for the Pacific Division co-champions, scored 40 runs and finished with 54 hits -- 23 of which went for extra bases.

Jocelyne Bruno, Carmel >> The senior catcher hit .458 for Carmel, leading the team with 28 runs batted in and 11 doubles.

Bruno was also among the team leaders in extra base hits, hitting one homer. She was the glue on defense behind the dish.

Rachael Carroll, Carmel >> A catalyst at the top of the order, Carroll hit .488 for the Padres, who reached the Central Coast Section Division II finals for the first time in school history.

Carroll recorded a team high 40 hits, 10 of which were doubles. She also stole 17 bases and drove in 20 runs. The senior struck out just twice in nearly 100 at bats.

Jessica Clements, Santa Catalina >> The Cougars were a different team when Clements returned from an injury. In fact, they didn’t lose a game in her 15 starts.

The sophomore hit a team high .583 for Santa Catalina, producing a .638 on base percentage, scoring 24 runs while hitting safely in all 15 games she played.

Vada Courtney, Pacific Grove >> The leadoff hitter lead the county in walks with 18. Courtney hit over .400, recording 13 multiple hit games and 11 doubles.

A two-time all-leaguer for Pacific Grove, the slick fielding shortstop had 42 hits and scored 34 runs in propelling them back into the Central Coast Section playoffs.

Katie Fraley, Santa Catalina >> The heart of the Cougars -- and the only senior - Fraley anchored the defense at shortstop while hitting .378 for the Central Coast Section Division II champions.

Fraley hit four home runs while driving in a team high 31 runs for Santa Catalina, who won its final 18 games. Fourteen of her 25 hits went for extra bases.

Sofia Gombos, North Salinas >> Named the Pacific Division co-Pitcher of the Year, Gombos picked up 11 wins, while striking out 121 hitters in 110 innings.

At the plate, Gombos hit .495 for the co-champion Vikings, belting seven homers. She had 22 extra bases hits, 40 runs batted in and scored 33 runs.

Vanessa Gonzalez, Notre Dame >> A four-time member of The Herald’s All-County softball team, the hurler won over 70 games and two CCS titles in her career for the Spirits.

Gonzalez won 15 games this past spring, sporting a 1.90 earned run average. She struck out 195 hitters in 149 innings of work.

Abby Gunter, Santa Catalina >> While her power numbers were down from her freshman year in 2017, the first baseman hit. 488 with three homers, including a two-run shot in the Central Coast Section Division II finals.

Bound for Iowa State in two years on a softball scholarship, the sophomore had 10 doubles and 23 runs batted in, scoring 25 runs for the Cougars.

Danielle Pasquariello, Pacific Grove >> Bound for Florida Atlantic on a softball scholarship, the senior catcher hit over .600 this spring with 10 homers and 55 runs batted in.

More than half of Pasquariello’s team high 45 hits went for extra bases. She was intentionally walked 14 times, including twice with the bases loaded this past spring. She was also hit by a pitch 10 times.

Logan Riggenbach, Notre Dame >> The sophomore evolved into one of the more dangerous hitters in the county, hitting .488 with 12 homers and 50 runs batted in.

Riggenbach scored 30 runs. Of her team high 39 hits, 21 went for extra bases. She was also hit by seven pitches and struck out just seven times in over 100 at bats.

Aliyah Robles, Alvarez >> The slugger lead the Pacific Division co-champions with eight homers and 39 runs batted in this spring, hitting over .600.

Robles had 47 hits, with 20 of them going for extra bases for Alvarez. She also scored 34 runs, stole 30 bases and struck out just once in 88 at bats.

Leslie Romero, Salinas >> Bound for New Mexico University next year, the slugger led the Cowboys in hitting at .455, leading the team in hits (35) and runs scored 18.

Romero also hit three homers. The senior scored 24 runs and recorded 12 extra base hits. In the outfield, she did not commit an error.

Alex Pingree, Santa Catalina coach >> Six years after pitching the Cougars to a Central Coast Section Division III title, Pingree coached them to their second section crown.

The Cougars went 21-1, running off a school record 18 straight wins in capturing the Mission Trail Athletic League title and Central Coast Section Division II championship.
