Central Coast Section Division III Quarterfinals
Saturday's game
No. 5 Terra Nova (12-13) vs. No. 4 Palma (15-11) at Sacred Heart Prep, 11 a.m.
The Chieftains are playing arguably their best baseball of the season, running off four straight wins before falling 4-3 in their season finale to Gabilan Division champion San Benito.
Don't be mislead by Sam Stoutenborough's 4-3 record. The Cal bound pitcher sports a 1.00 earned run average.
Vince Flores is hitting .322 with a team high 23 runs batted in, while Dominic Scattini is hitting a team high .398, having knocked in 22 runs. Jon Jon Berring has raised his average to .333.
Terra Nova was just 7-7 in the Peninsula Bay Division, a league that includes Sacred Heart Prep and Carlmont.
The Tigers struggled at the plate, hitting just .270 as a team. They did post a 2.29 team earned run average, with Dylan McDonald going 4-2 with a 1.32 ERA.
A Palma win will likely mean a meeting with top seed and Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League runner-up St. Francis of Watsonville.
