A win today at home against defending Mission Trail Athletic League champion Pacific Grove locks up Soledad's first league title in three years.
But a setback and King City or Carmel have hope of gaining a share of the title, or perhaps winning it themselves.
Of course, only one of them could be in that position by Tuesday night as the Mustangs and Carmel play each other twice to close the season.
What is still out there that makes things potentially interesting is Soledad and King City still have to finish a game that ended in a tie because of darkness back on March 9 on Friday.
If the Aztecs were to stumble and drop two to Pacific Grove, and King City was able to beat Carmel twice, the completion of that tie game would settle the league title.
Then again, all of this means nothing if Soledad (14-1), owners of 12 straight wins, just wins one of its final two games.
Or does it?
Carmel wants that game to be completed, regardless of what transpires. It still could determine who finishes in second or third. The top three teams from the MTAL are playoff bound.
The other issue is how many more innings will be needed to complete the game. Those innings will count against the pitchers for this week.
If I'm Soledad and I have the title wrapped up, I wouldn't bother using any of my varsity hurlers with the playoffs starting five days later.
